Who is MARE
(pronunciation: mar)
The Marion Alliance for Racial Equity (known as MARE) was formed June 2020, as a result of a growing urgency for our community to address racial inequities and injustices.
We exist to elevate the voices and experiences of people of color in Marion, IA.
We also aim to create spaces and a culture in Marion, IA that is welcoming and inclusive for all people.
Our Mission
The Marion Alliance for Racial Equity is a community-based organization made up of a diverse group of individuals who live, work, or visit Marion. We are actively working to identify and dismantle oppressive systems, amplify the voices of people of color, and honor their experiences.
Our Vision
Marion will be a welcoming, just, and racially diverse city where all people of color feel a sense of belonging and thrive.

MARE Meet-Up: Cultural Celebration!
We invite you to come and join us in celebrating a favorite tradition or snack that reflects your culture or community. Sharing is completely optional, but we'd love to learn more about what makes your traditions special too!
When: Thursday, February 13th, 2025 5:30pm – 7pm
Where: Marion Public Library- Room A
What to Expect: A favorite drink, snack, or food will be shared with you by our Board and Committee members
Exciting door prize drawings throughout the evening
Engage with some city, board, commission, and community advocacy leaders
A welcoming space to connect, celebrate, and envision our future together
Feel free to bring family or friends who live, play, learn, pray, or work in Marion and are interested in learning more about each other and MARE —we’d love to meet them!
